Sermon Notes

Legos and Don’t Lose Your Marbles // Justin Graves

I.  Great marriages lead to great families, so don’t get it twisted.

Ephesians 5:21-31 (NLT)

And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. And we are members of his body. As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”

Proverbs 18:22 (NLT)

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.II.  Pretending things aren’t wrong doesn’t help them get right.

Psalms 34: 14 (NLT)
Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Romans 12:17-18 (NIV)
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

1 Corinthians 13: 11 (NLT)

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.

A.) Peacemaker doesn’t mean pushover

Matthew 5:9 (NLT)

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

Romans 14:19 (ESV)
So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

B. Learn to apologize or forgive consistently and with sincerity

2 Corinthians 13:11 (ESV)

Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

“Forgive quickly- before silence turns into distance.  Every second you hold that grudge love slips further.  Let grace speak louder than pride.  Peace grows where mercy is planted.”

III.  Be wise with your time or you will be foolish with your life.

Psalms 90:12 (NCV)

Teach us how short our lives really are so that we may be wise.

Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
